FRANCHISE NOTES

     The Bruins new jerseys will feature a broad stripe across
the shoulders and down the length of the arms.  The stripe will
be black on the white home jersey and white on the away black
sweater.  Other changes will be minor, with the spoked-B logo now
featuring a thin trim of gold on its outer edge (BOSTON GLOBE,
8/20)....The Target Center's Dana Warg will meet today with Twin
Cities promoter Tom Scallen to try and finalize a plan to bring
Arena Football to Minneapolis (Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE,
8/20)....Devils Owner John McMullen says "talks are going well"
with the NJSEA in negotiations for a 12-year lease.  The two
sides have a September 15 deadline before their deal reverts to a
one-year agreement (N.Y. TIMES, 8/19)....The Broncos are selling
sponsorships for home games this season in an effort to bolster
revenues "and show what it could do with more control over Mile
High Stadium operations."  Budweiser has already agreed to
sponsor two games (DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL, 8/18-24
issue)....Heat Exec VP Dave Wohl denied reports that Glen Rice
was part of a deal to sign former Knicks Coach Pat Riley.  The
Heat are currently under an NBA investigation whether they
negotiated with Riley while he was under contract with the Knicks
(Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL, 8/21)....Stars President Jim Lites
said he is "more optimistic than ever" that a deal to sell 50% of
the team will be completed soon.  Lites said the team will then
focus on a new area, which will be in Irving, Lewiston, or
Arlington, but not Dallas (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 8/21).
