MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

     General Mills announced that members of the Rams will adorn
the cover of Wheaties boxes appearing in stores in the St. Louis
area (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 8/18)....The ball being produced
by Rawlings to commemorate Cal Ripken breaking Lou Gehrig's
streak will be sold only at Camden Yards until September 17, when
they became available nationwide (Baltimore SUN,
8/18)....Corporate sponsorship of sports arenas is profiled by
Jamie Wayne of the FINANCIAL POST.  Wayne: "Ironically, the one
sports facility in the world that could guarantee a return for a
name sponsor is without one -- the SkyDome.  It has long since
evolved from a mere stadium to a full-blown tourist attraction"
(FINANCIAL POST, 8/17)....In London, THE SUN is reporting that
Microsoft Chair Bill Gates paid $12M to the Rolling Stones to use
their song "Start Me Up" in ads for Windows 95.  Mick Jagger,
when approached by Microsoft, quoted the figure assuming it would
be refused (AD AGE ONLINE, 8/18). ....The Bonham Group, a Denver-
based sports/entertainment marketing firm, is expanding to
include a full-time emphasis on its TBG Media Analysis, an
appraisal of value represented by all media elements of a
sponsorship package (Bonham).
