DREAM TEAM TO WAKE UP WITH DEALS FROM SPRITE AND AT&T

USA Dream Team basketball gets "a big boost" from two
advertisers today, according to Bruce Horovitz of USA TODAY.
Despite the antics of Dream Team II in Toronto and the NBA labor
dispute, Coca-Cola and AT&T are set to announce sponsorship deals
with the '96 U.S. Team. Coca-Cola's Sprite has an exclusive
marketing contract with coach Lenny Wilkens and an AT&T promotion
will give away 200,000 USA Dream Team basketballs to consumers
who spend $50 on AT&T phone cards. But Horovitz notes "some
marketing experts say the Dream Team is becoming a marketing
yawner." Execs at Gatorade "are downplaying their plans," and
while McDonald's "won't disclose" their strategy, they say "they
are not put off by the NBA's labor dispute" (USA TODAY, 8/14).
KING OF THE HILL: Sprite's ad campaign featuring Grant Hill
is the focus of USA TODAY's "Ad Track." 63% of those surveyed
either like or love the ads: "Generation X ad campaign hits the
target for Sprite" (USA TODAY, 8/14).
