NAMES IN THE NEWS

     BILL O'DONNELL has been named VP of Affiliate Sales of The
Golf Channel.  He was formerly Dir of Sales and Marketing of The
Sports Channel New England (ELECTRONIC MEDIA, 8/7
issue)....NewSport has named four Regional VP's of Affiliate
Sales.  JOANNE THOELEN, VP Northeast, NEIL HARWELL, VP Southeast,
ANDREA KING, VP Central, and JOHN SADLER, VP West
(NewSport)....PETER PASCARELLI has joined BASEBALL WEEKLY as
their lead columnist and special projects writer.  Pascarelli was
most recently Dir of Information for ESPN Baseball Productions
and a consultant to The Baseball Network (BASEBALL
WEEKLY)....Giants VP and GM BOB QUINN received a contract
extension through next season (SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE,
8/10)....Northwest Entertainment Group has named LINDA MCKENNA as
VP/People Development.  She spent seven years at Molson Breweries
(NEG)....CNN Sports Anchor TOM KIRKLAND will join the on-air
anchor team on Press Box. He will begin in the first week of
September (PRIME)....DOUG KIRK has been appointed Dir of
Interactive Programming and Business Development at Sports
Illustrated....Jay Leno in his opening monologue:  "Nine out of
ten people say they don't plan to watch the MIKE TYSON-PETER
MCNEELEY fight on pay-per-view.  In fact, I don't know how much
of it McNeeley's going to see" ("Tonight Show," 8/9).
