NAMES IN THE NEWS

     The current issue of SI examines the issue of domestic
violence among athletes with a focus on ROBERT PARISH.  Parish is
accused of abuse by his ex-wife NANCY SAAD.  In the piece, SI's
Gerry Callahan notes that past rumors of Parish's abuse were
never pursued.  He adds, "True, until recently Saad had never
spoken publicly about the abuse, but she claims her phone didn't
exactly ring off the hook as journalists tried to check out what
they'd heard."  Saad:  "I kept wondering when someone would call"
(SI, 7/31 issue)....The WALL STREET JOURNAL's "Heard on the
Street" examines former MLB Commissioner PETER UEBERROTH's work
as Co-Chair of Doubletree hotels, whose shares have risen 79%
since a July '94 IPO.  Ueberroth, whose spends only half his time
on Doubletree, has a stake in the company valued at $29.7M (WALL
STREET JOURNAL, 7/27)....The Mariners have announced that Asst
Dir of Public Relations PETE VANDERWARKER will be leaving the
team to go to law school.  TIM HEVLY has been promoted to fill
the position (Mariners)....Wal-Mart CEO DAVID GLASS, who also
serves as CEO of the Royals, has been chosen Chief Executive of
the Year by CHIEF EXECUTIVE magazine (USA TODAY, 7/27)....ABREY
BRIGGS, a paralyzed woman, is suing the Spurs alleging that the
Alamodome is inadequately equipped for the disabled (AP/STAR
TRIBUNE, 7/27).
