ACC COMMISH EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER FOOTBALL EXPOSURE

In his annual state of the conference address, ACC
Commissioner Gene Corrigan said that "he is concerned about
overexposure" with the conference's TV arrangement that starts in
'96, despite the fact that the new deal will bring in $17M in
revenues. With the "collapse" of the CFA TV package last year,
the ACC signed with ABC to air at least a game a week starting in
'96, with 10-12 games also on ESPN or ESPN2. Corrigan: "In a
way it was good for us, but I'm not so sure how good it's going
to be in the long haul. ... When we start out next year, nobody
is going to get a better rating than a 3.5 or a 4.0. So, where
are we going to be six years down the road. ... We're going to
end up getting more television exposure than ever before, and
that's fine. But for the health of college football, I'm really
not sure it's the best thing to do. We may have shot ourselves
in the foot on this one" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 7/25).
