FLAMES HOME TO BE CALLED CANADIAN AIRLINES SADDLEDOME

The Flames were "forced to sweeten the pot" yesterday before
a name change to the Olympic Saddledome could "take flight with
city council," according to David Steinhart of the CALGARY
HERALD. As part of the deal, the team will now make a C$2M
contribution (C$100,000 a year) to amateur sports over the
duration of the C$10M, 20-year deal with Canadian Airlines.
Originally, the agreement called for a C$1.5M "injection" into
amateur sports, but that wasn't enough to satisfy the council.
An additional C$10M in service contracts -- team travel and
advertising -- is also included. Also, with the Olympic name
being removed, a wall will be built in the Saddledome to
"commemorate the legacy" of the '88 Games (CALGARY HERALD, 7/25).
