The Seahawks have reportedly been working with Hollywood
powerhouse Creative Artists Agency in "studying the potential
location and feasibility of a new stadium in the Southland,"
according to Bill Plaschke of the L.A. TIMES. CAA would oversee
the building of a stadium financed by investors, including
several from the entertainment industry. A "preliminary site"
for the venue has been identified in El Segundo. NFL
Commissioner Paul Tagliabue "acknowledged" that the next team to
move to L.A. "would probably be an existing franchise instead of
an expansion team." Tagliabue did list the Seahawks, Oilers and
Browns as teams "with stadium problems." Plaschke notes,
however, that this does not mean that Walt Disney Co., which has
initiated contact with league officials, "is out of the picture"
(L.A. TIMES, 7/22). Tagliabue: "I've told Michael Eisner and I
would tell anybody else that, initially, we're looking at
existing teams. At the right time, we'll look at expansion, but
I don't see us accelerating into expansion because someone says
their clear preference is for an expansion team" (Pat Yasinskas,
TAMPA TRIBUNE, 7/23).
