MOON'S DOMESTIC PROBLEMS ADD TO VIKINGS' TROUBLED OFF-SEASON

Noting Warren Moon's domestic dispute and the fact that
linebacker Broderick Thomas was stopped at Houston's airport for
trying to carry a gun through a metal detector, columnist Dan
Barreiro writes that the Vikings "have become a league-wide
embarrassment." Other off-season issues: Sexual harassment
charges against Moon, coach Dennis Green, and assistant coach
Richard Solomon, problems with the team's lease at the Metrodome,
and the "dumping" of the team's longtime ticket manager.
Barreiro: "The Vikings have two choices before them: erect a
guard tower or ask the NFL to put them out of their misery. I
vote death penalty" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 7/23). Moon met
the media in Houston on Friday, with his wife Felicia, whom he
allegedly assaulted, by his side. Moon accepted responsibility
for the incident (STAR TRIBUNE, 7/22). Moon was formally charged
Friday with beating his wife (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 7/22).
Yesterday, Moon announced the formation of a second foundation --
joining his previous Crescent Moon Foundation -- which will help
athletes and their spouses with domestic problems. Barreiro
calls this "right out of the handbook" of agent Leigh Steinberg
(STAR TRIBUNE, 7/24).
