BALTIMORE GETS THE HINT: DON'T WAIT FOR NFL EXPANSION

     After a meeting with NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, MD
Gov. Parris Glendening "said he does not believe the league will
expand any time soon."  Glendening, who added that the meeting
"cleared the air" of any bad feelings between the state and the
NFL, said that Tagliabue indicated that "there would be several
additional moves" by NFL franchises.  Glendening also said that
Tagliabue did not think the Redskins' plan to build a stadium in
suburban Maryland would hamper Baltimore's chances of getting a
team.  Glendening:  "My impression is, as long as we're not
talking about expansion, that the decision would be left up to an
individual owner, and the league is not going to do anything to
stop it" (Jon Morgan, Baltimore SUN, 7/19).
