CIVIC CENTER FOR CONCERTS, CIRCUSES AND HUIZENGA'S PANTHERS

Jack Nease writes in his column for the Ft. Lauderdale SUN
SENTINEL, "When several months ago Wayne Huizenga talked about
putting up $45 million of his money to help finance a new Broward
County civic center and arena, some of us thought he was talking
about a donation. It is now clear The Wayne was talking only of
an investment -- one on which he expected to receive a return, or
at least 8 percent interest." Nease goes on to add Huizenga's
main interest in bringing a civic center to Broward County was to
"stem the $1 million-a-month red-ink flow from his hockey team."
Nease: "All that talk of Broward County needing a civic center
to house concerts, circuses and the like was peripheral. A money
making home for the Panthers was the main point" (Ft. Lauderdale
SUN SENTINEL, 7/20).
