LIONS CONTINUE QUARREL WITH DOME; MAY PULL '96 PRE-SEASON

The Lions are considering moving two '96 preseason games
from the Silverdome "in their search to raise more cash despite
an unfavorable lease," writes Kathleen Gray in the OAKLAND PRESS.
The team is also considering raising prices of suite tickets,
which would also serve to "take money out of the Silverdome's
coffers." The facility is responding by "considering holding
off" on marketing deals the Lions have with local businesses that
include fan activities inside and outside the dome. Silverdome
and city of Pontiac authorities are angry that team has not set
suite ticket prices, claiming that they are unable to sell suites
for the upcoming season. Since they hold exclusive advertising
rights inside the stadium, the Silverdome has refused to allow
the Lions to co-sponsor activities such as kicking and throwing
contests and fan tailgates with local companies. The Lions said
last week they will not negotiate with the Silverdome in the
future after several city offers "were inadequate." The team is
now "concentrating efforts" on building a new stadium (OAKLAND
PRESS, 7/19).
