ARENA PROBLEMS COULD PUT THE JETS NEXT IN LINE FOR DEPARTURE

Spirit of Manitoba President Cam Osler said that if
construction of a new arena for the NHL Jets is delayed beyond
the August 15 deadline, costs would go up and the publicly funded
arena might not be finished in time for the '97 season, according
to a report in the Toronto GLOBE & MAIL. Without a new arena,
the money-losing franchise is almost certain to leave the city.
Delays come from two court actions from Thin Ice, a group opposed
to public money for the arena (CP/Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 7/12).
