MARINERS WANT ANSWER ON STADIUM PLAN; MAY NEED TIME TO SELL

The Mariners say they need to know what is going to happen
about financing a new stadium, as team officials want time to
sell the team in the off-season if there is not going to be a
deal, according to the SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER. Rebecca Boren
writes that the King County Council's deadline for putting a
measure on the September 19 primary ballot is July 24. Council
members say they want another agency to agree to pay for cost
overruns, a promise of swift permit approvals by the city of
Seattle, and an agreement that the city and state underwrite the
stadium bonds before putting a measure to raise the sales tax
1/10 of 1% on the ballot (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 7/11).
