WASHINGTON ARENA NEGOTIATOR SCRUTINIZED FOR HER EFFORTS

Michelle Bernard, Chair of DC's Redevelopment Land Agency
(RLA) and an associate at Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge told
acquaintances last week that the firm told her to "quit the RLA
or quit her job," according to the WASHINGTON POST. As the
unpaid RLA Chair, Bernard has been a "vocal critic" of the city's
financing plan for the proposed downtown sports arena. Bernard
believes the firm is being pressured by NationsBank and the
Federal City Council. Both "flatly denied" they put any pressure
on Shaw Pittman (Maryann Haggerty, WASHINGTON POST, 7/8).
