LIKE SANDS THROUGH THE HOURGLASS, THE JETS SAGA CONTINUES

Jets President Barry Shenkarow, who is still awaiting
approval of a deal to sell his team to the Spirit of Manitoba,
said yesterday that "there is still a chance" the team could move
before next season, writes Scott Taylor in this morning's
WINNIPEG FREE PRESS. Taylor reports that an "NHL source" said
last night that Oklahoma City, Nashville and Minneapolis are
"still interested in acquiring the Jets" for next season. The
source: "The league doesn't want a lame-duck team. If this new
group in Winnipeg can't convince the league that it has enough
operating capital and enough to buy the team, than the deal may
not be approved." Taylor reports that "the league is concerned"
that Spirit of Manitoba may not have enough money left over after
the purchsase to operate the club (WINNIPEG FREE PRESS, 7/7).
