GRADUATION RATES FALL AMONG MEN'S HOOP PROGRAMS

An NCAA study reveals that for the first time since
Proposition 48, graduation rates have declined in men's
basketball. The graduation rate for Div. I basektball players
who entered college in '88 was 42%, a drop from 46% for the
previous class. The "sharp decline among male basketball players
may be cause for concern, especially because the dip occurred
when even stricter academic requirements were supposed to have
the opposite effect." The biggest "strides" in the data were
made by black female athletes (AP/Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE,
6/30).
HEAVY ATTENDANCE: National home attendance for NCAA Women's
basketball reached an all-time high. Tennessee led all schools
with the highest home average (8,032) and total attendance
(290,410). The Big Ten had the highest per game average of 3,137.
The 4,961,946 who watched NCAA women play in '94-95 was an
increase of 9% over '93-94 (NCAA).
