A'S HAVE SOME "MINOR CONCERNS" OVER COLISEUM RENOVATIONS

The A's have expressed some "minor concerns" about receiving
their "fair share" of the $85M in Coliseum renovations promised
to the Raiders, according to Victor Chi in today's SAN JOSE
MERCURY NEWS. East Bay officials involved in the Raiders deal
met with A's officials over the weekend to let them know the
details of the proposed renovations. Both sides meet again
tomorrow or Thursday. There has been speculation that the A's are
"bothered" that the added capacity would mar the aesthetic look
of the Coliseum as a baseball park and "hurt" advance sales
because with so many seats, fans would "not feel the urgency" to
buy seats ahead of time (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 6/27).
MORE RAIDERS FALLOUT: Jerry Cobb examined the Raiders and
Rams leaving L.A. on CNBC's "Market Wrap," saying the moves have
"left Los Angeles with a black eye in the sports world." Alan
Taylor Communication's Howard Dolgon: "It certainly is a big loss
to the [NFL] with the Fox contract -- when you loose the second
largest television market in the country, that's a big hit."
Cobb notes "it remains to be seen" if the Raiders' return will be
much of an economic boon to the Bay area (CNBC, 6/26). In
Phoenix, AZ Cardinals lawyer Thomas Guilfoil denied weekend
reports that the Cardinals were ready to move to L.A.. Guilfoil
told the ARIZONA REPUBLIC that nothing he said in the wake of the
Raiders' decision "had anything to do with the Cardinals leaving
Phoenix." He added that he was merely answering questions about
the Cards' lease arrangement with ASU for Sun Devil Stadium (Tim
Tyers, PHOENIX GAZETTE, 6/26).
THIS WEEK: The Alameda County Board of Supervisors and the
Oakland City Council will hold public hearings today, followed by
an initial vote on the Raioders. Thursday, applications for
Oakland Coliseum personal seat licenses become available (SAN
JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 6/27).
