REMEMBER LESSON NO. 1: DON'T GET HIGH ON YOUR OWN SUPPLY

The new Adidas "Hemp" sneaker, scheduled to be sold in U.S.
stores in January, is one of a "growing number of products made
from cannabis sativa, the same family of plant from which
marijuana is produced." Although the "strain of cannabis used in
production of the hemp fiber" is different, it has been enough to
"spark notice" from those who believe Adidas and Nike (who
markets hemp hats in the fall), "are overtly trying to capitalize
on the popularity marijuana is enjoying in youth culture." Susan
Parker, Brand Unit Manager at Adidas in Portland, said "hip,
urban teenagers" want an "eco-friendly shoe" and that hemp is
"highly durable" (Pamela Reynolds, BOSTON GLOBE, 6/22).

continuing with its "Made in America" slogan is examined in
this morning's WASHINGTON POST. New Balance CEO Jim Davis
is "challenging the FTC's definition -- or lack of one -- of
an All-American product" (WASHINGTON POST, 6/23).
