OH NELLIE! TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA LOOK FOR TITLE SPONSOR

Officials from both Texas and Oklahoma are "hoping to secure
a title sponsor within three weeks" for their annual football
game at the Cotton Bowl in an effort to raise funds for their
athletic programs. In a similar move, Texas and Texas A&M are
trying to get a title sponsor for their annual game, perhaps as
early as this season, according to Bill Nichols of the DALLAS
MORNING NEWS. All three hope to have a sponsor and TV coverage
for their three games when the teams begin play in the Big 12 in
'96. The UT/OU deal "hinges on Host Communications finding a
sponsor with which both schools agree." A deal is expected to
net each school at least $100,000 a year, according to UT Assoc
AD Chris Plonsky. Plonsky: "There is some misgiving about
getting into this area, but we're not talking about plastering
logos on the helmets." Plonksy said Host has begun to look for
potential candidates, with the deal including title of the series
and stadium signage. Mentioned: Dr Pepper, Southwest Airlines
and GTE (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6/8).
