JERRY SOLOMON HEADS TO AVP TO TROUBLE-SHOOT OLYMPIC ISSUE

Jerry Solomon has been named as new Exec Dir of the AVP.
Solomon, formerly President & COO of ProServ and currently
President of P.S. StarGames, a joint venture between himself and
ProServ, will help the AVP set a course for its continued growth
into the next century, and at the same time help resolve the
issue between the organization and U.S. Volleyball on how beach
volleyball players will be selected for the '96 Olympics. AVP
President Jon Stevenson: "[Solomon] brings to the organization
not only an understanding of our sport from his experiences in
various events and from representing some of the top names on
tour, but years of marketing experience with major corporations
throughout the world." Solomon, who will continue to develop
P.S. StarGames: "Beach volleyball and the AVP in particular has
seen unprecedented growth. Despite this growth, I believe the
AVP is still under-developed. The contribution of great athletes
competing in great settings provides outstanding marketing
opportunities for corporations and we hope to bring the
association to a new level" (AVP). As the AVP position will be
full-time, Solomon will relocate to Southern CA (THE DAILY).
NO TIME FOR HANDSHAKES: Solomon plans to meet today with
AVP players regarding the Olympic issues. AVP players have been
boycotting all events run by FIVB, the sport's international
governing body which requires that players qualify for the
Olympics through events on its circuit. The deadline for
registration for the season's final FIVB event is June 30.
Solomon will discuss potential options today, including a lawsuit
