PLAN FOR A NEW TIGER STADIUM SEEMS TO GAIN MOMENTUM

"Plans for a new Tiger Stadium have progressed to the point
that the builders have been chosen," according to Barkholz &
Goodin of CRAIN'S DETROIT BUSINESS. Pending "successful
financing," the Southfield division of Perini Building and
Detroit-based Walbridge Aldinger have reportedly been selected.
According to Tigers Owner Mike Ilitch, the team, in cooperation
with the city of Detroit, "would roll out a detailed stadium plan
within four weeks." Walbridge Aldinger Chair & CEO John Rakolta
denied last week that a formal decision has been made on a team.
Rakolta said he has discussed a joint venture with Perini if the
project proceeds, "but it hasn't been decided who will own the
stadium, so no entity exists to sign a contract." Early
estimates: $175M for construction and $65M-200M for land
acquisition and infrastructure. HOK has reportedly been working
with Detroit architects Smith, Hinchman & Grylls Assoc. on a
design (CRAIN'S DETROIT BUSINESS, 6/11 issue).
