'95 Masters Champion Ben Crenshaw, Peter Jacobsen and
defending champ Gary Player will all participate in the "Skills
Challenge," to be aired October 14-15 on NBC. The Challenge pits
eight PGA and Senior PGA Tour players in separate golf events
(THE DAILY)....TBN and NBC could air Cal Ripken's record-breaking
game if there is at least one or two rainouts before the
scheduled September 6 game, which is presently scheduled to air
on HTS (Milton Kent, Baltimore SUN, 4/12)....Mike Tollin, who
wrote and directed TBS' the Hank Aaron special, "Chasing the
Dream," which airs tonight, is also working on a sitcom for HBO
about a "sleazy sports agent." Actor Robert Wuhl is likely to
play the agent (Michael Hiestand, USA TODAY, 4/12)....Gould Media
Services will launch a monthly newsletter entitled Women's
Television Sports Monthly on May 10. The newsletter will be a
vehicle for discussion and analysis of critical issues in women's
television sports (Gould Media)....Reds exhibition games will be
heard on WAOZ-AM since the team's flagship station, WLW-AM, had
already sold its afternoon advertising based on the expectation
the Reds would be playing night games by this time in the season.
Canceling afternoon advertising for Reds exhibitions would cost
"a ton of money," according to WLW Program Dir Bill Wills
(CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 4/12). ....Time Warner is considering
selling half its stake in its Six Flags theme park division in a
deal that could be worth as much as $600M. The sale would be
part of Time Warner's debt reduction efforts (DAILY VARIETY,
4/12).
