MONTANA REPORTEDLY RETIRING TUESDAY; HEADING TO NBC

     As reported in yesterday's L.A TIMES, Chiefs QB JOE MONTANA
is expected to make his retirement official at a news conference
in San Francisco on Tuesday.  "Although no deals are final,
Montana's future appears to include a continuing connection with
the NFL."  Montana has reportedly been in negotiations with NBC
Sports President DICK EBERSOL about becoming part of the NBC's
NFL broadcast crew.  He is also said to have talked with the
league about becoming a spokesperson for the NFL.  Sponsorship
deals, "including an affiliation with an Indy-car racing team,"
are also possible (Kent Pulliam, KANSAS CITY STAR, 4/12).
