NFL CLOSES SMITHSONIAN SERIES WITH SEGMENT ON THE MEDIA

     The NFL lecture series at the Smithsonian in Washington DC
ended last night with a discussion of the league's relationship
with the media.  The panel:  NFL President NEIL AUSTRIAN, ABC
Sports VP DENNIS LEWIN, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED's PETER KING,
Baltimore SUN reporter JOHN STEADMAN.  The discussion was
moderated by BOSTON GLOBE columnist WILL MCDONOUGH.  The panel
chronicled media coverage from the '50s to the future.  NFL
Commissioner PAUL TAGLIABUE was also in attendance and gave the
closing remarks.  The lecture series is just one of many events
planned for this year's 75th anniversary of the league (THE
DAILY).
