NAMES IN THE NEWS

     According to a poll of 200 kids ages 11 to 17, conducted by
the Leo Burnett Co., the "coolest celebrities," in no particular
order:  CHARLES BARKLEY, MICHAEL JORDAN, SHAQUILLE O'NEAL, KEVIN
COSTNER and JOE MONTANA (AD AGE, 10/24 issue)....In ENTERTAINMENT
WEEKLY's annual Power 101 Survey, RUPERT MURDOCH has been named
Hollywood's top player, SUMNER REDSTONE was second, MICHAEL
EISNER was fifth and TED TURNER was sixth (10/24 issue)....Among
the keynote speakers at this fall's Sports Careers Seminar: RON
FRASER, retired head baseball coach at the Univ/Miami, and
NewLeaf VP TONY ROMERO, who will speak on the upcoming plans for
Blockbuster Park.  Newleaf is a joint venture company that was
formed by Blockbuster and IBM.  Sports Careers will host the
Seminar October 27-29 in South FL (Sports Careers).
GCI Group President/CEO JACK BERGEN will be a featured speaker
offering his perspective of sports marketing at the '94 U.S.
Olympic Congress, November 9-11 in Nashville (GCI). DAVID
LETTERMAN:  "Yesterday at the Meadowlands, the New York Giants
lost their fourth game in row.  It was so bad that in the fourth
quarter, fans actually began chanting, "Let's Go Mets, Let's Go
Mets!" ("Late Night," CBS, 10/24).
