AOC to begin vaccine rollout for athletes next week

The Australian Olympic Committee is "setting up its own vaccination hubs around the country to immunise Australian athletes." The vaccination of around 1000 Olympic and Paralympic athletes and officials "will begin on Monday." The Australian Institute of Sport is one hub, with the NSW and Victorian institutes of sport and "other locations in major capital cities becoming centres that will see many of the Olympians immunised against COVID-19." The AOC "partnered with Aspen Medical to roll out the vaccine." AOC CEO Matt Carroll said that the company had been "enlisted so as not to put pressure on the existing government vaccination centres and avenues" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 5/5).

Meanwhile, Coates "insists athletes do not have to fear being stranded in Japan after the Tokyo Games," amid the Aussie cricketers' inability to exit India after the IPL was halted. He said, “All our athletes understand, the officials understand, that we have to go into a 14-day quarantine when we arrive home. If there were any athletes who tested positive before they had to come home, the AOC will leave someone behind with them. They’ll be well looked after" (BRISBANE TIMES, 5/5).
