Australia-India New Year's Cricket Test Staying In Sydney

Sydney has "held on to its beloved New Year's Test after a desperate bid" by the New South Wales government and the state's cricket officials to keep the iconic cricket fixture at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Saving the Sydney Test, which is against India this year, is a "fillip for the NSW government, which had been working feverishly behind the scenes to avoid the jewel in the city's cricket crown being taken elsewhere." Cricket Australia interim CEO Nick Hockley said, "To date, we have been able to deliver a safe and successful summer thanks to our detailed biosecurity protocols. ... We are confident that both this match, and the fourth Test in Brisbane, will play out in a safe and successful manner and thus round out what has been a magnificent men’s international program this summer" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 12/29).
