Liverpool CCO Billy Hogan To Replace Peter Moore As CEO

Liverpool CEO Peter Moore will leave the club next month and be replaced in the role by Managing Dir & CCO Billy Hogan. Moore’s three-year contract expires this summer and he is returning with his wife to the U.S.. He will "oversee a transitional period" until Hogan -- who has worked for Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group since ‘04 -- starts as CEO on Sept. 1. The American-born Hogan has been "instrumental in transforming Liverpool’s commercial fortunes under FSG" and negotiated the new kit deal with Nike that starts on Saturday. Moore has been "heavily involved in Liverpool’s community response to Covid-19" and issued a statement apologizing for the club’s "initial decision to place some staff on furlough during lockdown," and admitted to leaving with "mixed emotions" (London GUARDIAN, 7/31).

While Klopp and his players "have been delivering on the pitch," Moore has "ensured the club has been delivering off it." In February, Liverpool announced a pre-tax profit of £42M for last year despite a record £223M investment on players. Aided by a "major increase in media receipts, revenues broke through the half-billion mark" as the club brought in £533M during the period (SKY SPORTS, 7/31).

Hogan has been described as the "hidden figure" at Liverpool, "overseeing the financial growth" under FSG. Given his "latest high-profile appointment, his quietly efficient way of operating has obviously not gone unnoticed" (LIVERPOOL ECHO, 7/31).
