RFU To Dismiss A Quarter Of Its Staff, Brace For £107M In Losses

Nearly a quarter of Rugby Football Union staff are "set to be made redundant" as the organization braces itself for financial losses of up to £107M ($134M). A consultation process "has been launched at Twickenham that will propose the number of roles at the RFU be reduced by 139." The union has 580 members of staff. The impact of the pandemic will cost the RFU at least £32M in lost revenue next year, rising to over £100M if the autumn internationals have to be cancelled. The RFU had planned to be "debt free" by '22 but CEO Bill Sweeney has warned it will "take five years before it is on a sound financial footing again" (LONDON TIMES, 7/6).
