Marseille Fined But Does Not Face Champions League Ban

The UEFA Club Financial Control Body fined Ligue 1 side Marseille €3M ($3.4M) and "will withhold" 15% of the club's revenues from UEFA club competitions for the '20-21 and '21-22 seasons. While Marseille was "severely sanctioned for its misconduct," the club still can play in the Champions League next season, which "remains most essential" (L'EQUIPE, 6/19).

Meanwhile, the French Ligue de Football Professionnel BOD voted unanimously to "keep Ligue 1 at 20 teams" for next season despite France's highest administrative court recently suspending the relegations of clubs Amiens and Toulouse. An extraordinary General Assembly "was convened for June 23 in order to validate" the BOD's decision (LE PARISIEN, 6/19).
