LaLiga Cleared To Hold Friday, Monday Matches To Finish Season

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) told LaLiga it will allow matches to be played on both Mondays and Fridays to help finish the '19-20 season. The announcement came despite the country's commercial courts ruling in favor of the RFEF in its long-running "legal battle with LaLiga over Monday and Friday night matches," as the RFEF had previously argued that the scheduling of games on those days "required its approval." This season, Friday night matches were temporarily allowed, "but Monday games were not." However, the RFEF said in a statement that it wishes to "show its good will" by allowing LaLiga to play on both days this season if the season resumes (AS, 5/28). The RFEF also stated that it may allow for Friday and Monday fixtures at the start of next season too, "if matches continue to be held behind closed doors then" (MARCA, 5/28).

Meanwhile, LaLiga is "making a spectacular return for English TV viewers -- with all games being shown for free in June." The league and its U.K. broadcast partner Premier Sports announced that all live matches "will be made available for Sky TV customers." It "follows the Bundesliga proving to be a big hit on BT Sport" (London DAILY MIRROR, 5/28).
