ATP Cup Seeing Strong Attendance Through First Five Days

Nick Kyrgios celebrates a victory for Team Australia on Day 5 in front of a lively Brisbane crowdgetty images

Pre-tournament fears that the ATP Cup's "new concept would be lost on fans have been allayed by strong crowds" through the first five days of action. Tennis Australia officials said that those crowds have "beaten the corresponding days" of the Sydney and Brisbane Int'l last year. TA COO Tom Larner said, "In the first four days, 116,412 fans have attended the tournament across the three cities." Larner, the tournament director of the ATP Cup, added, "Brisbane crowd numbers are tracking above average. Perth has had the two highest attendance figures for any session across the three cities." Sydney's total of 43,000 through four days will "easily eclipse" that of the Sydney Int'l last year, which drew a total of just under 55,000 fans through the turnstiles. Tickets are "scarce for finals, too," which begin at Ken Rosewall Arena on Thursday (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 1/7).
