The F1 Spanish Grand Prix is Sunday, and owners of the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit that holds the race are "seeking to strike a new deal ... amid speculation that the race's days are numbered." Track Dir Joan Fontsere said that talks about extending the race past this year "have been ongoing" since government authorities met with F1 CEO Chase Carey in March. With the current deal ending after this weekend and attendance for the race dropping by 50,000 since '07, there have been "rumors that another race could replace the Spanish GP" on the '20 schedule (AP, 5/10). Carey indicated on Thursday that next year's schedule will remain at 21 races.
