MLS Completes RSL Probe, Ready To Take Over Sale Process

MLS Commissioner Don Garber during today's State of the League address said MLS has completed its investigation into Real Salt Lake Owner Dell Loy Hansen following reports of alleged racist comments and other misconduct. The league will announce the findings after the MLS Cup. Garber added MLS is "prepared to take over the sales process for Real Salt Lake and Utah Soccer Holdings” -- excluding the NWSL Utah Royals FC -- and it is "more likely than not that we will be assuming that role within the next 30 days.” He added that “there is absolutely no plan whatsoever to move” RSL out of Utah.

Meanwhile, Garber also broached sale of Orlando City SC, which THE DAILY reported in October was nearing the final stages of a deal. Garber: "Conversations continue to happen. (Majority owner Flavio Augusto da Silva) has indicated publicly that he is willing to sell his shares of the club. He has the controlling interest, but at this time, there’s no news about a change in majority ownership in the near future." He added da Silva "will continue to be a great owner in the event that that team doesn’t sell in the short or the mid-term."

Garber also recapped 2020 and previewed Saturday's of MLS Cup. See this evening's SBJ Unpacks for more.
