USGA CEO Mike Davis Stepping Down By End Of '21

USGA CEO Mike Davis announced today that he will leave the organization by the end of ‘21. Davis, who joined the USGA in ‘90, became its Exec Dir in ’11 and its first CEO in ‘16 where he was responsible for day-to-day operations of the association. The USGA is looking to hire a new CEO prior to next year’s U.S. Open in June, and Davis intends to stay with the USGA to help with the transition until he leaves at the end that year. The USGA has retained Allegis Partners to conduct the search for Davis’ replacement.

The move, which Golf Digest reports has been in the works for 3 ½ years, comes two days after Davis awarded the U.S. Open trophy to Bryson DeChambeau at Winged Foot. Davis is not leaving the golf industry when he steps down from the USGA. He is partnering with golf course designer Tom Fazio in a new business venture, where together they have formed Fazio & Davis Golf Design. As USGA CEO, Davis pushed to host the U.S. Open at public golf courses as well the global rules modernization effort, the establishment of a new World Handicap System and the creation of the USGA Foundation.
