Carlos Vela Opting Out Of MLS Restart; Biggest Name So Far

LAFC F Carlos Vela "will not take part" in the MLS is Back tournament in Orlando, "handing the league another setback in its push" to return to play. LAFC is scheduled to leave today for Florida, and a source said that Vela is "choosing to remain home with his pregnant wife" and three-year-old son. Club officials declined to comment. MLS gave players the "opportunity to skip the five-week tournament, which kicks off Wednesday, for health or family reasons." Vela, the league's reigning MVP, is the "highest-profile player to opt out" so far (L.A. TIMES, 7/6).
