Sources: MLBPA Responds To Owners With 70-Game Proposal

The MLBPA has "finalized a proposal to MLB for a season of 70 games," according to sources. The sources added that other details in MLBPA's new proposal include:

  • 70-game season from July 19 through Sept. 30
  • $50M in playoff bonuses
  • 50/50 split of new postseason TV revenues in '21
  • Forgiveness of salary advance for Tier I-III players
  • Universal DH
  • Mutual waiver of right to file a grievance

Absent a deal, the league has the "ability to implement a season of its desired length, likely around 50 games, per a March 26 agreement between the sides, a move that probably would lead to a grievance from the players" (ESPN.com, 6/18).
