NBPA's Roberts: Testing Is Key Issue For Return To Play

NBPA Exec Dir Michele Roberts pointed to the availability of testing as the biggest factor in teams returning to the court. “The resumption of play is going to have to be an assessment of risk,” she said during the final installment of CAA World Congress Comes To You. "And so the first thing we would want to know, I would imagine is, 'Am I infected? … What are the ways to mitigate that, the risk of infection or reinfection?'" Roberts said players must be comfortable with the risks involved with playing: “There's a lot of ‘if's’, but those ‘if's’ have to be satisfied before I think players are in a position to decide whether or not they want to take any risks.” Roberts: “It's not something we can just turn the switch on without a lot of discussion evaluation and assessment.”

Roberts continued, “It's going to be the players and the staff that's going to be at risk. And so they are the ones that have the right to get as much information as possible, to have the best mitigation efforts put into place.” Roberts: “We've got to make the very, very difficult decision about whether or not we can risk our player's health. We'll do it.”
