USOPC Offers To Extend Domestic Sponsorships Into '21

The USOPC has offered to extend sponsorship rights for its current domestic partners through Sept. 5, 2021, the final day of next year’s rescheduled Tokyo Games, at no additional cost. USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland and USOPP CEO Kathy Carter made the offering in letters sent to sponsors last night. All of the USOPC’s domestic partnerships are currently set to end on Dec. 31. A letter reviewed by THE DAILY reads, "The extension will require a mutually agreed and executed amendment to your current Marks Rights Agreement. It’s our hope to accomplish this in the most efficient way possible, and will begin by setting up a call with you and your partnership leads to discuss the best way forward."

What remains unclear is how the USOPC will ultimately handle current domestic sponsors that would be in conflict with rival sponsorships beginning in '21. Some sponsors received a slightly different version of the letter, indicating that there may be additional considerations given existing legal conflicts.
