Riot Games' Esports Plans For New Game Differ From LoL

Riot Games today announced its esports plans for the new game Valorant, and for now, it "will not follow in the major-league sized footprints of Riot’s League of Legends circuit." Riot had "organized the League of Legends scene like a traditional sports-like league." But several "genre-wise" differences between LoL and the Valorant, a free-to-play first-person shooter targeted for a wide release this summer, "led Riot to their current strategy" (WASHINGTON POST, 4/15).
