Marlins Park Set To Host Miami-FIU College Football Game

Miami will visit FIU tomorrow, and it will be in an "unlikely spot" at Marlins Park. The game is being played at the home of the Marlins because UM was concerned that FIU's Riccardo Silva Stadium "would not be big enough." Marlins Park holds about 37,000, while Riccardo Silva Stadium has an "estimated capacity of 20,000." The grounds crew at Marlins Park has "spent a couple weeks" changing the baseball field "into a football field for Saturday’s game, and tickets are still available" (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 11/22). Marlins Park sits on the old site of the Orange Bowl, where UM played 468 games, and the venue on Saturday "should be nearly filled" (AP, 11/22).
