Joe Mansueto takes over as sole owner of MLS Fire....NBC to use skycam as main camera at Notre Dame game....UGA football plans "pink out" for breast cancer awareness

Fire Investor Joe Mansueto Takes Over As Sole Owner Of Club

Billionaire investor Joe Mansueto has "taken over as sole owner" of the Fire from Andrew Hauptman. Mansueto in '18 purchased 49% of the MLS team and became Vice Chair, and Hauptman had remained Chair. Now, Mansueto is "in charge and will serve" as Chair, while Hauptman is "no longer with the club" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 9/13). Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Mansueto had been the "first new Fire investor since Hauptman bought the team" from AEG in '07 (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 9/13).

This comes as the Fire continue to progress toward securing a deal to play at Soldier Field starting in '20 (THE DAILY).

NBC To Use Sideline Skycam As Main Angle At Notre Dame

Notre Dame football's home opener against New Mexico on Saturday "will look a bit different" on NBC's telecast, as a "sideline Skycam will serve as the primary play-by-play camera." It will "undoubtedly take most viewers some getting used to." NBC Sports producer Rob Hyland said, "When the play comes to a conclusion, the ability to collapse and move dynamically with that action, you literally feel like you’re right there. ... Notre Dame really encourages innovation and letting us be risk-takers in television production. This is a calculated risk, and not a reckless risk" (NBCSPORTS.com, 9/13).

UGA Plans "Pink Out" To Spread Breast Cancer Awareness

An initiative to spread breast cancer awareness has "caught fire" in Athens ahead of Saturday's Arkansas State-Georgia football game. Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson's wife, Wendy, died recently after a two-year battle with breast cancer, and now a segment of the UGA fan base is "calling for all Georgia fans to wear pink" to Sanford Stadium on Saturday (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 9/11). Anderson, who only returned to the sidelines last week, said, "I wasn't expecting it, and extremely flattered and thankful for those folks and so many others that have stepped up in so many different ways" (ESPN.com, 9/12).

Blackhawks Fan Event To Showcase United Center Video Board

The Blackhawks host their Training Camp Festival on Sunday at United Center. A "free outdoor street festival" opens at 8:00am CT in an arena parking lot, and it "will include appearances from Blackhawks alumni, live music and other entertainment." Fans also will be able to see United Center's new video board. With 8,600 square feet of display area, it is the "largest center-hung screen display with the highest resolution technology among all arenas that host both NHL and NBA teams" (Chicago DAILY HERALD, 9/12).
