U.S. Olympic Committee Changes Name To Include Paralympics

The U.S. Olympic Committee has "changed its name" to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee following BOD approval. Digital marks "changed already, with all physical branding expected to be done by next year." There is currently "no word on expected cost of changes." The USOPC manages both Olympic and Paralympic teams; only three other countries do it that way (TWITTER.com, 6/20). Additionally, the U.S. Olympic HOF will be renamed the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic HOF (USOPC).

USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland said of the vote to change the name, “To have the board vote to make such an historic change in the organization’s future is an opportunity and a moment in time that I’m, quite frankly, really privileged to be apart of. It is time for us to recognize the Paralympic movement in our name and what it says for us is that we’re going to take another step forward in the growth and awareness and integration of the Paralympics into our family in a meaningful way. The organization has an inclusive culture and this is a further step in that direction” (YOUTUBE.com, 6/20).
