NHL, NHLPA Commit To Further Growing Women's Hockey

The NHL and NHLPA have established a female hockey advisory committee that aims to help accelerate the growth of female hockey in North America. The committee, which is being launched during the league’s first ever Gender Equality Month campaign, is made up of 11 women with varied backgrounds across hockey, including Michele Amidon, who was USA Hockey’s first women’s hockey director in ’06, former Olympian Lyndsey Fry, who is now the Coyotes' brand ambassador and special advisor, current NWHL Metropolitan Riveters D Kelsey Koelzer, and Angela James, the first black woman inducted into the Hockey HOF.

Meanwhile, the NHL will celebrate a first-ever Gender Equality Month campaign throughout March. Stories of women across the hockey world will be shared online on NHL.com, as well as on social and broadcast. The league’s website will also feature guest columns from female players on what gender equality means to them. NHL Network also will broadcast the Patty Kazmaier Award ceremony for the first time, which celebrates the top female college ice hockey player in the U.S.
