Twitter Voices Weigh In On Machado Deal, Free Agency

Fox' Ken Rosenthal tweeted of the Padres signing Manny Machado, "Source says total value of #WhiteSox offer could have reached $350M if all options were vested and every incentive was reached. But Machado, as believed all along, wanted the $300M guarantee." ESPN's Jeff Passan: "For all the conversation about the FA market collapsing: Manny Machado got the $300 million he wanted. Bryce Harper is going to get more. The top end of the market itself isn't necessarily the problem. Watching it move like molasses, though, has not been a good look for baseball." The Athletic's Jayson Stark: "As one veteran player said to me this week, 'An issue no one talks about is 90% of the $ goes to 10% of the players.'" MLB Network's Jon Heyman: "Machado’s deal once finalized is the biggest for a free agent in baseball history. But that record may only last a matter of days -- if that." MLB.com's Mike Petriello: "Really looking forward to Harper signing for $300,000,000.01 now."

Yahoo Sports' Tim Brown noted, "Machado deal likely wrapped Monday evening near Pads' camp at Arrowhead Grill, where agent Dan Lozano dined with Padres GM AJ Preller and assistant GM Josh Stein."
