FC Barcelona Looking To Place Team In Nine-Club NWSL

La Liga club FC Barcelona is "in talks to put a team" in the NWSL next year. There are currently nine teams in the U.S.-based women's league, and Barcelona "would be the first from outside" the country. FC Barcelona Strategy & Knowledge Dir Javier Sobrino said that the NWSL team "would be known as Barcelona." However, it is "likely that the team would play" in L.A. The La Liga club's interest in establishing a U.S. franchise "reflects the astonishing growth of the women's game globally" (AFP, 10/16).
