DAZN readies for debut with Joshua-Povetkin fight....Hawk Harrelson's career coming to an end ....Camping World Stadium may get $60M in added upgrades

DAZN Opens Service In U.S. With Joshua-Povetkin Title Fight

Streaming service DAZN will debut in the U.S. with the Anthony Joshua-Alexander Povetkin fight at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, and the matchup is "clearly a way to try to get fans to give DAZN a shot." It costs $9.99 a month to subscribe to DAZN, and the service "only opened up for sign-up this week." That means there is "no telling how many U.S. fans will be able to see the Joshua-Povetkin fight, but by the normal standards, it's going to be very low." Matchroom Sports' Eddie Hearn knows DAZN will "take time" to build its audience, and a good performance by Joshua could "generate excitement and raise DAZN's profile" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 9/20).

Hawk Harrelson's Run With White Sox Concluding This Weekend

Hawk Harrelson's run as the White Sox' TV play-by-play man ends "after 33 seasons" with three broadcasts this weekend against the Cubs. Harrelson's "curtain call" will be on WGN-TV Friday and Saturday, and NBC Sports Chicago on Sunday. Fans who "embrace him as theirs ... will savor it" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 9/21). Though Harrelson is a "polarizing figure, even among Sox fans, he always has brought an entertainment value to his broadcasts that not a lot of announcers can." So many team broadcasts around MLB "sound the same," but Harrelson's call is "distinctive." People "often overlook" that Harrelson is a "very good broadcaster" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 9/21).

Camping World Stadium Could Get Another $60M In Upgrades

Four years after a $207M renovation of Camping World Stadium, Central Florida leaders recommended Friday spending another $60M on "new upgrades" to the venue. Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan said that the proposed upgrades were "cut from the original renovation because of costs and compromises." Orange County's Tourist Development Council "unanimously recommended the stadium-improvement plan," which requires the approval of county commissioners. The money for the project would "come from the county’s tourist development tax." Hogan said that the proposal "seeks to improve parking areas, upper-deck bathrooms and add some seating." The project "would bring the seating capacity to 65,000" (ORLANDOSENTINEL.com, 9/21).

A tiered balcony will "offer a view of races -- and the starting line for the Kentucky Derby." Construction on the rooftop lounge "will begin after the Nov. 2-3 Breeders’ Cup" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/21).
