NFL Owners Unanimously Approve Tepper As Panthers Owner

NFL owners this afternoon unanimously approved David Tepper as the next owner of the Panthers. Tepper's $2.275B purchase of the team from Jerry Richardson is scheduled to close in July. Speaking to reporters shortly after getting the nod, Tepper showed humor and a clear desire to engage with the media, a marked contrast to the extremely staid Richardson. He declined to say whether he planned big changes to the business side of the team, saying he has not had time to focus on it. He committed to keeping the team in the Carolinas, calling Charlotte the right home for the Panthers.

Tepper promised not to interfere with football operations. “I have a great appreciation for how stupid I am and sometimes it’s better to do nothing than to do something,” Tepper said. “The first thing I care about is winning, the second thing I care about is winning, the third thing…” He left the last sentence hanging, letting the media to answer “winning” for him. A source said Tepper has a year to sell the stake he has in the Steelers.
