Maple Leafs Name Dubas GM; Raptors Fire Coach Casey

The Maple Leafs on Friday named Kyle Dubas GM, though the team "did not indicate whether there would be other changes in the hockey office." It was "widely believed the 32-year-old Dubas" -- an Assistant GM since '14 -- was "next in line to replace Lou Lamoriello, who was moved to an advisory role after serving as GM for three years." Dubas is "credited with moving the Leafs" toward analytics (THESTAR.com, 5/11).

Meanwhile, Raptors coach Dwane Casey was "fired" on Friday by team President Masai Ujiri. After the Raptors were swept from the playoffs by the Cavaliers, a coaching move was "expected even though Casey might win NBA coach of the year honours and has been at the helm during the best run in franchise history" (TORONTOSUN.com, 5/11).
